Spain’s new bullet train link

Spain's first high-speed rail link between Madrid and Barcelona has become operational, after years of delay. The AVE train took 155 minutes to cover the 550km from Barcelona to Madrid with hitting speed of 300 km/h. Totally 17 trains each carrying 200 people is operational now. The cost of the trip from Barcelona to Madrid is 108 Euros which competes with air travel. The service is operated by Spain's national train company Renfe. This high speed train link was planned some two decades ago, but the completion of the project was delayed due to administrative and construction issues. One of the interesting facts about this train service is that if the train reaches the destination with a delay of more than half an hour, full money will be returned back to the passengers. Interesting isn’t it?
