Rain saves India

Anil Kumble very correctly said that “experience plays a major role when we play cricket with Aussies in Australia”. The absence of senior players in the Indian team was very clearly seen in first ODI in Gabba. They start of play was doubtful due to heavy rain in the previous day. But with the help of excellent drainage systems available in Gabba stadium, the play started in time. I don’t know whether dhoni’s decision of batting first after winning the toss is a good one or not. But the Indian team lost its only two senior players in the team after the start of the play. Unfortunately Sachin's wicket was a hit wicket when he went for a back foot shot. This is the first time in his career to go out for a hit wicket. Then Gambhir and Sharma managed to take the score upto 92 for 2 wickets. Gambhir was the third wicket. The absence of Yuvraj revealed the middle order to the Aussies. As a result Indian team lost its 6th wicket when the score was 102. Then Dhoni and Pathan managed to add 45 runs on score board. When pathan was run out, Punjab tiger, Harbhajan came in and went for a flurry of boundaries and added another 42 runs with dhoni at a run rate of 8.12 runs per over. This took Indians to a decent total of 194 in the end of the innings.

Australians opened their innings with flurry of boundaries. But rain interrupted the match in 4th over. After the resumption, wind was blowing towards Indian side. Aussies lost two quick wickets and they were in need of 95 in 112 balls. Fortunately or unfortunately rain interrupted and the match was abandoned. Both the teams were given two points. Next match is India vs. Sri Lanka on 5th February.
