Software Engineers in India and England

Long back, a person who sacrificed his sleep, forgot his food, forgot his laughter was called a saint. But now he is called an IT professional. This is the case in India, but not in England. I recently met my friend’s brother who is working in one of the leading software company in England. He told me some interesting incidents happened there. Once there was a project to be completed by him. He told his boss that he is planning to complete his work on Saturday. You know what kind of reply his boss gave? He asked him whether he is out of his mind. I was really shocked to hear this.

Indians are the best hard workers in the world. But yet India cannot improve its economic position. The reason is work-life balance is not available for most of the workers in India, that too especially for an IT professional. In England an excellent work-life balance is maintained and as a result there is no tension among the software professionals in England. But in India, a employees performance will be evaluated depending on how many nights he worked in the company.

Most of the software companies give usual project which is not that tough. But the highlight is the time given to complete the project. They will be asked to complete the project in short time period. This is the trick played by all the software companies these days. Due to short time availability, they try to finish their work by working in the night.

There are many USA headquartered software companies which has only one branch in the world. That one branch will be in India. Even I got a job in such a company. Have anyone thought about the reason behind this? It’s nothing but, Indians are hard workers and they will be ready to work even in the night time. Also another reason is the declining value of Rupee against dollar. Since there was a recent increase in value of Rupee against dollar, many IT companies landed in trouble and in order to avoid any loss, they chucked out many employees saying that they underperformed (refer to my previous post of IT employees asked to leave).

According to me Indians in the software field are used instead of utilizing them. Some action should be taken by the government to reduce the working hours of Indian employees. This can reduce the death of software professionals due to over tension. A work-life balance has to be implemented in India to bring India as a leading country in this world.
